The Firs Residential Home is a family-run care home at 9 Stevens Lane in Breaston, a village on the A6005 between Derby and Nottingham. Breaston sits between two larger places, so the home is within easy reach of Long Eaton and the rest of Erewash on one side and of Derby and its eastern suburbs on the other.

Getting to The Firs
The trentbarton indigo bus runs through Breaston on its way between Derby and Nottingham. Its stops include Spondon Lane End, Borrowash Victoria Avenue, Draycott Square, Breaston Church and Long Eaton Green, so relatives in several of the places above can reach the village without a car. Check the current indigo timetable before you travel.
If you are driving, there is a private car park at the front of the house on Stevens Lane.
Visiting the home

Coming to The Firs after a hospital stay
A move into care is often arranged while someone is still in hospital. For reference, The Firs is about 10 miles from Royal Derby Hospital, about 7 miles from Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham and about 7 miles from Ilkeston Community Hospital. Rooms are sometimes available at short notice, and a respite stay can give your relative somewhere settled to recover while longer-term plans are made.
Funding and which council to contact
The council that assesses your relative depends on where they live now, not where the care home is. Derby City Council covers Derby itself, including Spondon; you can find its adult social care information on the council website. Breaston, Long Eaton, Ilkeston, Draycott, Borrowash, Sandiacre and Risley are all in Erewash, where Derbyshire County Council adult care is responsible.
