April at The Firs: A Month of Joy, Connection, and Creativity
April has been a truly heartwarming month here at The Firs, filled with meaningful moments, creativity, and plenty of reasons to smile. As the days grew brighter, so did the spirit in our home, with residents, staff, and visitors all coming together to create a wonderful sense of community.

Listening, Sharing, and Looking Ahead
As always, we had our residents’ meeting, which is a valuable opportunity for everyone to share their thoughts and ideas. It was lovely to hear such a range of voices, from suggestions for more colouring sessions and sewing activities to enjoying walks around Breaston.
We also spoke about upcoming improvements to the home, so that everyone felt informed and involved in the changes ahead. These conversations are so important in shaping life at The Firs and making it a place that truly feels like home.
Creativity in Full Bloom
Creativity has been a strong theme throughout April. From making hand puppets (kindly donated by Breaston Repair Café) to crafting Easter cards and decorating bonnets, our residents embraced every opportunity to get involved.
There was laughter, imagination, and a real sense of pride in everything created. These moments don’t just produce lovely keepsakes; they bring people together and spark joy in the simplest ways.
Easter Celebrations
Our Easter celebrations were a particular highlight. The home was filled with excitement as residents enjoyed chocolate eggs, a visit from the Easter Bunny, and fun activities, including making chocolate nests, Easter bingo, and a shared buffet. It was a day full of warmth, laughter, and togetherness, one that will be fondly remembered by all.

Celebrating Special Moments
Norman celebrated an incredible birthday, turning 98 in April. He was surrounded by family and his beloved dog, which was a truly special day and a privilege for us to be part of.

Weekly Highlights
Regular weekly activities continued to bring comfort and routine. Wednesdays remain a firm favourite with our hairdresser visits, leaving everyone feeling pampered and refreshed. The simple pleasures create a rhythm to the week that residents look forward to and enjoy.
Community Connections
April also brought some beautiful connections with the wider community. Visits from local children, church services, and the much-loved Pause with Paws sessions all added something special to our days. These interactions are incredibly meaningful, offering companionship, comfort, and a sense of connection that enriches life at The Firs.
Fun, Games, and Meaningful Moments
There have been plenty of fun and engaging activities throughout the month, from balloon tennis and bingo afternoons to movie days complete with popcorn and sweets.

Two of our residents spent some time folding baby clothes, which was a wonderful moment of reflection and shared memories, reminding us of how powerful familiar, purposeful activities can be.
Spring in the Garden
Outdoors, we embraced the arrival of spring. Residents and staff worked together in the garden, planting, weeding, and enjoying the sunshine. Our garden continues to grow into a peaceful and colourful space for everyone to enjoy. Alongside this, we’ve started an exciting new journey watching caterpillars transform into butterflies: a small but fascinating reminder of change and growth.

Celebrating the Season
We also marked special days, including National Tea Day, Earth Day, and St George’s Day, each celebrated with themed activities, delicious treats, and a wonderful sense of occasion.
Gratitude and Looking Forward
As always, we are incredibly grateful for the kindness and generosity of our local community, from donated flowers brightening our home to thoughtful gifts and visits that mean so much to our residents.
April has been a month full of laughter, creativity, and connection. It’s these shared experiences, both big and small, that make life at The Firs so special. We look forward to all that the coming months will bring.
